Energy Community Contracting Parties’ total heat demand is around 41 500 ktoe [1] (480 TWh), which is around 14% of their TPES [2].                 

                ~81% of total heat demand is in Ukraine

                 ~5% of total heat demand is in Serbia

                 ~4% of total heat demand is in Bosnia and Herzegovina and Moldova

                The rest is distributed between Albania, Kosovo*, Montenegro and North Macedonia.

                Georgia’s total heat demand is unknown at the moment.

Energy Community Contracting Parties’ total heat production in district heating systems is around
7 868 ktoe (91.5 TWh).

                ~86% of heat production in DHs is in Ukraine

                 ~9% of heat production in DHs is in Serbia

                 The rest is distributed between Moldova, Bosnia and Herzegovina, North Macedonia and Kosovo*.

                Albania, Georgia and Montenegro have no functioning district heating systems.

Energy Community Contracting Parties’ share of district heating systems in estimated total heat demand is around 19 %.

                Serbia has the largest individual share of district heating systems (31% of total heat demand).

                Significant shares are in Ukraine (20%), Moldova (19%), North Macedonia (10 %) and Bosnia and Herzegovina (8 %).
