Montenegro does not have a district heating system, and 90% of all buildings use individual heating systems. However, there is a centralised heating system in the city of Pljevlja that consists of two small (6 MW) lignite-fired boilers used for heating 284 apartments and public buildings (35 offices) in the city centre. Montenegro’s energy strategy up to 2030 envisages the development of district heating systems on biomass in the municipalities in northern parts of the country.
